BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A Bakersfield man has been sentenced to 75 years to life plus 10 years for the murder of his three-week-old son.
On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Eduardo Gutierrez, 26, after his January conviction on charges of second-degree murder, assault on a child causing death, and felony child abuse, after Gutierrez delivered a brutal beating to his infant son Valentin in November 2024.
The baby died eight days later.
Valentin’s mother Leslie Carillo confronted Guiterrez during the witness impact portion of sentencing, asking him why he did it.
Gutierrez responded with profanity, then flipped onlookers the bird inside the courtroom.
