BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A Kern County jury has found Jesus Villa not guilty of assault with a deadly weapon following a trial over an altercation at a vacant property.
Prosecutors alleged that Villa attacked a woman with a wooden board after she confronted him at the property.
The defense argued that Villa acted in self defense, contending that the woman struck him first with a pipe. During the trial, jurors also viewed body-camera footage that the defense said contradicted portions of the woman’s testimony.
After deliberations, the jury returned a not guilty verdict last Thursday.
