BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A former Kern County sheriff’s sergeant accused of sexually assaulting a woman he previously dated is scheduled to stand trial in November.
Stephen Wells faces charges of rape by force or fear, assault with intent to commit rape, and burglary. Prosecutors allege the assault occurred in March 2024 after Wells entered the woman’s home through an unlocked door.
A trial date has been set for November 9 in Kern County Superior Court.
