BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — The Bakersfield City Council will once again consider plans for a new public safety radio tower in southwest Bakersfield.
The proposed 150-foot tower would be constructed at the city’s Water Resources maintenance yard on Buena Vista Road as part of an effort to modernize the aging emergency communications system.
Some nearby residents have expressed concerns about the tower’s location near homes and Ronald Reagan Elementary School.
City officials say the project meets federal safety standards and hope the tower will be operational by the end of 2027.
The council is scheduled to discuss the proposal during its 5:15 p.m. meeting Tuesday at Bakersfield City Hall.
