BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) – A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and child sex crimes after Bakersfield police said he allegedly abducted an 11-year-old girl earlier this month.
The Bakersfield Police Department said Antonio Rafael Gomez Martinez made contact with the girl near her home on Sept. 3. A family member reported her missing after 8 p.m. that night.
Police said the girl was returned by the suspect to an area near her home around 12:30 p.m. the following day.
According to BPD, detectives followed up on information provided by the girl and identified the suspect’s vehicle. Police said Flock Safety cameras helped investigators locate and identify the vehicle.
Gomez Martinez was arrested without incident on suspicion of kidnapping, rape of a child under 14 and child molestation.
BPD is reminding parents to regularly discuss personal safety with their children and to reinforce the importance of not going with people they do not know.
